He won in a laddie. Tonight trump will be up all night screaming fraud!
Hahhahhahahahhahaha EFF TRUMP for anyone who didn’t think this would be the outcome, you don’t know / understand Maine.
Oh don’t worry, we do. Jackman is a hot bed of white supremacy, your state has more hate crimes per capita than any other state, and there are hardly any Jewish folks or POCs up there. Having a Nazi tattoo must have boosted Platner’s votes by 10% to be honest.
You forgot to mention all the militia based there and all the others who regularly travel to Maine from other parts of the country to train for the coming race wars. Look up the Charlie Howard killing for an idea of Maine’s warmth toward the LGBTQ community and realize that a substantial number of Maine people grew up in homes where they still refer to the chuck a **** bridge over the Kenduskeag River in Bangor where the rainbow pride crosswalk painted a week or so ago has been defaced repeatedly by locals. Noteworthy also is the substantially higher than national average DUI rate and the high rate of domestic violence, persistently in the top ten states for such crimes. Maine is the Alabama of the north. Mississippi currently has better public schools (16th) than Maine does (41st).
Bigotry is rooted from ignorance and lack of exposure. Go to any country, state, province, city or town where there are no white, black, brown, Christian, Muslim, Jewish.... and you will find people who think they hate white, black, brown, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish people. In the US, you'll find true racism in places that aren't diverse like upstate New York, Idaho, Nebraska, parts of Maine and Utah, and many other micros regions of our country that have never been exposed to the beauty of diversity. You can go to Asia and find a boatload of scary racism towards anyone not presenting as Asian... same can be said for many parts of Europe. It's all ignorance rooted from lack of exposure to people who present differently. Those of us who have been exposed to diversity know that humans can only be judged fairly by the content of their character.
I’ve spent most of my life in rural places, including the next town over from Graham Platner, small towns in Montana and Arizona. Yes, plenty of racism. I currently live in a very diverse very liberal commonwealth- the most liberal in the country - and plenty of racism here, too. It doesn’t really matter if you grow up where there is or isn’t diversity - racism is about a hateful heart and the inclination to teach the same to children.
I respect your anecdotal experience but I'm certain exposure to physically and culturally different people from an early age goes a long way towards understanding how and why people can only judged by their individual character.
DP. Real life isn't limited to what makes sense in your imagination. The MOST racist people I meet are consistently upper middle class and above white people from very diverse places. You see, ignorance comes from lack of exposure. That's what I found in the poorer parts of the south. Being around me made a lot of these people question their assumptions. In contrast, racist hatred and true bigotry come from upbringing and from deeply ingrained attitudes that certain groups are better than others. Exposure doesn't cure that. That's what I found in places like the finance and legal world in NYC, LA, Chicago. The existence of people like me - well spoken, well educated minorities from excellent families - only fueled resentment that we were exceeding our "place." For instance, many white liberals are extremely racist and their love of condescending to poor Black people in the name of charity is part of this racism. They're very comfortable with Black people living in degraded circumstances because that's where they believe Black people will belong. See how they treat Black equals and how quickly they bring out the backbiting and racially coded language and negative reviews. That's racial hatred. The same goes for wealthier white southerners who don't like seeing people of color in "their" clubs and neighborhoods. All the education and exposure in the world cannot change the fact that they believe the natural order of things is for them to be above us and they will do very ugly things to maintain that natural order they like. The idea that racism is due to lack of education is a convenient fraud that allows well educated, very worldly white people to pretend racism is a disease of the lower classes.
