I haven't read this entire thread nor was I ever interested in the BRF before this last year or two. I think Megan Markle coming out on Oprah to discuss such a faint shade of racism in a year such as the year we've just had is extremely out of touch and goes to show what a privileged jerk she is. I don't care if someone asked how dark her baby might be. I really don't. It's not news that the BRC might be not be as woke as her CA a** and how slighted she feels in a pandemic year and a year of police brutality and murder....pffffttt. NO ONE cares. Go live your richy rich life in Santa Barbara and good job on alienating your husband from his family. YOU SUCK.
If someone asked her with concern how dark skinned her baby would be, that is not "a faint shade of racism." Are you kidding? (I obviously have no idea if this happened, but the allegation is not trivial from my perspective.)
NP - first, Megan Markle is not dark. She barely looks bi-racial. But didn't all of us Royalwatchers kind of wonder what their babies would look like when they got together? It had nothing to do with racism and everything to do with her long dark hair and his bright red hair. Yeah, I had a hard time imagining it.
So, I guess you’ve never wondered if a baby would look like one of their grandparents?
You seem sincere, and I’m really not sure how to explain how racism and color-ism can play out. 1. Surely you have some sense that at least some Black people have been negatively impacted by racism. 2. Is it so difficult to imagine that a family of literal colonizers who married only other white Protestants, and quite often other descendants of Queen Victoria, prior to Meghan, might look at his maternal grandmother and mutter something nasty? 3. Is it at least plausible to entertain the idea that this type of curiosity might have a different tinge — compared to, say, hair color or other racially neutral traits? And that this type of discussion might be multi-layered and hurtful— intentionally or not? Just to shift back to the original topic: I remember feeling very heartened when I saw the picture of Harry, Meghan, and Archie, with the Queen, Prince Philip, and Meghan’s mum — because seeing that picture felt like progress.
You're sweet to spell this out for the PP. I don't bother anymore - a lot of these posters are coming from cultures and societies where it is considered perfectly fine to practice colorism to the point that it is endemic in relationships and families form the moment they're born. They won't get it, because its acceptable to them to look down on someone based on caste which is determined by color and heritage.
