My DH worked these kinds of cases for two years. It really took a toll on him. I feel so sorry for the feds who have to view the images. The only good thing is this - Josh will likely spend the rest of his miserable life in federal prison. He’ll serve every day. There is no early out. The Feds win close to 98% of these cases. He is toast.
Isn’t Jom Bob well-connected?
Just in fundementalist circles and maybe around his small town--not in a "federal" way.
Yeah. Well connected in this case would mean a quiet plea deal, not an indictment and jail.
Not going to happen. Not with federal charges of crimes against children.
He was offered a 10 year plea deal and turned it down. Guessing he’s arrogant enough to think his pseudo celebrity status plus Jesus will let him go free.
Source?
Not PP but here. Yes, it’s a tabloid but they had exclusive access to the court documents. https://www.the-sun.com/entertainment/3637311/josh-duggar-refused-plea-deal-child-pornography-case/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
Thanks, I'm sure his lawyers will advise him to consider taking a plea deal now that his motions were denied, but I wonder if he will insist on a trial...doubt it, but who knows.
A few things here - 1) there is no "exclusive" access to court documents. They are public record unless they are under seal, but in any case, "a quiet plea deal" is not 10 years in prison. Plus, if that story is correct, Duggar was offered the deal BEFORE he was indicted, which leads to point no. 2; 2) the gov't is unlikely to accept a plea now - by offering before indictment they were basically saying we think we will prove you guilty at trial, but if you just admit your crimes now we will recommend a lesser sentence so that no one has to go through a trial. Now the motion to suppress has been denied and as long as the evidence is what the gov't says it is, there's a very good chance they will get a conviction and full sentence. There's no more incentive for them to make a plea deal.
