Here are the real reasons why Crossfield should be excluded. Relief FCPS’s own study does NOT show Oakton needing relief. Reid has repeatedly said the new Western HS is intended to relieve Westfield, Chantilly, and Centreville. Any relief to Oakton and South Lakes is purely optional.
More recent information shows Oakton to be filing up quickly. New construction is currently in the area and it will explode with the development of the ATT site. Within 3 years, Oakton will be overcrowded. It is currently over 2700.
Split feeder patterns If they go with Option B and moves Oak Hill to Carson and Crossfield to Franklin, Carson’s split feeder mess would be 100% solved.
But, they are currently at Carson, so going to KAA means no split feeder for them.
Distance Crossfield is farther from Western HS than Floris, Coates, McNair, Oak Hill, AND Fox Mill. The entire Crossfield boundary sits east of Route 286, forcing every bus to cross that busy road twice a day.
LOL! They do this going to Carson, presently. And, if they were switched to Franklin, they would also have to cross 286. Which would you rather face? 50 and 66 or 286? Or, over the narrow, windy roads to Oakton? Most of Crossfield's membership lives in Franklin Farm which is 2-3 miles from KAA. Oakton is 10 miles.
Remember the distance from Crossfield to Oakton is NOT a stated consideration for Western HS boundary; it's just what McDaniel is preaching.
It is a fact. If they put Fox Mill at KAA, they will likely need to put Crossfield at South Lakes--since it is already a split feeder. That will not be as close to most of Crossfield students as KAA.
