You sure you weren’t describing the boys side and Derek Biss/Phil Gyau? It’s been incredibly frustrating and unprofessional for a few years. Loads of players leaving and now we are bio-banding for MLSNext teams and the kids coming down are HUGE. Derek’s explanation “the rules are loose and this my club”

Philip is a businessman more than a coach. He leeches on players who have made something of themselves and claims it is his doing. Interviewing kids as if he had something to do with their success when in years prior he ignored them and their abilities completely. He does not create players he just rides their success stories. Next Star attracts a lot of talent and so it’s a great drop in model because you’re plying against good talent but they DO NOT add any coaching value and Philip is absolutely not the reason for these player’s growth and success [/quote]

Respectfully disagree about PG.  He was great for my son, sorry you didn't have him or have the same experience.  And he absolutely played a key role in Wayne and Kristian and AH and many others' development.  I suppose he isn't for everyone, and if you are near the bottom of the team you will need to do a lot of extra work for him to have you crack the middle or the top.  But for the right kids, he is excellent, and also excellent for anyone training with NextStar.[/quote]
This is a nice reply to a ridiculous post from a bitter parent. I’ve said this on here before, but PG has played a significant role in the development of virtually all the male and some of the female pro and high level D1 players who have come through BSC and many other area clubs over the last couple decades. He’s a gifted teacher who has done as much as any other coach to help advance soccer in our area, and he continues to check in with and mentor kids once they move out of the system.  No way my kid would be where he is if PG hadn’t spotted him and told us he would throw away most of his potential if he continued to rely his speed and aggression without developing his skills.

And you don’t know anything about him if you think he’s a leech or a savvy businessman. He has always had a sliding scale for training and has trained lots of talented kids from low income families for free or for token amounts.  Had PT not recruited him to Next Star, he’d still be doing the same loosely organized training sessions he did for years, with small groups of die-hard players who paid a very reasonable fee for the training if they could afford to pay at all.  You wouldn’t find these trainings listed anywhere, and you were not always sure when or where the next ones would be. Now PT is indeed savvy businessman, and what he’s done with Next Star and PG’s fortunes in a relatively short time is truly remarkable.  I can see where there’d be gripes about the charges for some of the rather large “small group” training sessions PT runs, but he has made it very easy for kids to get to work with pro and top college players.
