There is a reason parents object to some of these books being available in school libraries. This is not "banning." [twitter]https://twitter.com/EndWokeness/status/1701633651891417364[/twitter]
I am a parent. I do not object. A small portion of parents don’t get to dictate to everyone.
I’m a school librarian. 25 years running. Pretty sure I haven’t corrupt anyone on my watch. My own children read whatever they wanted to. They’re all successful adults. Trust professionals.
I'm a former teacher and a parent of two. These books are not appropriate for school libraries. And, since tax dollars fund the purchase of books, we do indeed get a say in books available to students. Purchase the classics. Purchase appropriate literature. Leave the smut for parents to purchase for their own children. And, sorry - we have seen over the past 3 years that blind trust in professionals is naive.
Well said. Thank you. Your former students were lucky to have a teacher who cares as much as you clearly do.
Thank you. I am absolutely mystified by supposed parents who believe that books like Gender Queer and All Boys Aren't Blue should be available in school libraries. I truly cannot understand it. I would really think long and hard about allowing my children to associate with children of parents who have these views.
And I’m absolutely mystified at people stupid enough to believe that these books are widely available in school libraries. Moreover, you fascists keep proving you haven’t read the book, you’ve just had one or two pages spoon fed to you. You don’t get it in context and you don’t want it in context. Meanwhile fascists like you are busy banning the books you actually want gone - books that feature gay people as parts of normal families. books about African American history. books about our multicultural country. These are your real targets; you want a white patriarchal and heteronormative America again.
