How many 9th grade teachers were destaffed from Westfield for next year? I know two personally.
Sad. And it’s infuriating how the school board completely disregards the negative impacts of these types of boundary changes.
It’s kind of a shit-show. They can’t really claim they’d leave Westfield at 74% because it was “too big” when they are leaving Oakton so large. They just make short-term decisions based on what they think they get away with and what will placate the loudest people with the most money. Money may not exchange hands, but it’s still corrupt.
100% agree there is a LOT of corruption. When a large block of people organize, the school board members think about that large block of votes and nothing else. Disgusting.
It’s wild to me that so many people continue complaining about how various parents are coming together to advocate for what they believe is right for their kids. Every single person in this county has access to the boundary tool. Every single person can attend a boundary meeting in person or via Zoom. Every single person can email their school board members or text their neighbors or talk to their communities. If you are choosing not to do this, then you have zero right to complain. If you think it’s so “disgusting,” stop wasting your time posting on this forum and go take action that’ll actually move the needle.
Agreed. There are lots of ways to contact people and have your voice heard. The big difference, I think, is that the people who are passionate about the subject one way or the other have taken the time to organize and are communicating to post comments, send emails, and post on FB. The people who are not happy with the changes seem to be less organized. And I think that there are a lot of people who don’t care. Crossfield seems to have a group of parents that want to move to Skyview but they have posted that they are worried about their kids social life at school if the parents speak too loudly about moving from Oakton. It is a weird vibe. The ones who want to move have been vocal but some have been abrasive. Westfields lack of a voice has been surprising. I don’t even think that the Centreville families have had to be all that loud to fight moving. It is weird.
Centreville hasthe advantage of Seema Dixit living in their boundary and making sure to take care of her neighborhood. The ONLY area moved out of "overcrowded" CVHS was a low income apartment building that is closer to CVHS than areas that stayed put? That's shady AF.
This, exactly. What else are Westfield parents supposed to do? Dixit is refusing to meet, reply to emails, or take calls from any of us. The ret of the School Board and Michelle Reid's office have been similarly unresponsive when I've emailed. They literally do not care. Message received.
