I hope all the DCUM posters who over the years have made comments indicating that affairs and divorce don't have a terrible impact on children listened to the emotion in these children's voices as they related their pain. Even if Jennifer Dulos had not been murdered, her children's statements about their lives being torn apart by their father's abandonment of the family and taking up with Michelle are painful to hear. Adults should not be so selfish.
+googolplex I never had kids because of all the horrible crap I watched my father do to my mother and how she was too sad to really take her of her children and sometimes she lashed out at us because we were the ties that bound her to him. (I wish desperately she had left him; I would rather us have been poor and struggling than comfortable and bullied and abused by him.) The youngest Dulos daughter talked about how she remembers when she was very small Michelle Traconis would lift her down from the top bunk because she was scared to come down by herself - that she trusted Traconis to catch her. And now she doesn’t trust anybody and doesn’t know if she ever will again (attachment disorder) because Traconis helped her father kill her mother and hide her body away from her kids forever. Some days I feel downright anti-natalist because of all I’ve seen life do to so many children. After growing up abused and watching my mother abused and cheated on etc. I went into domestic violence advocacy and then criminal law and child protection and I have seen absolutely all the most horrible things that adults put children through in this life and it made me terrified to ever have one. Please put your kids first - or don’t bother having them, you don’t have to have them just to check the box.
PP here. I'm so very sorry for the pain you've experienced but also most grateful for your chosen career and all that you do for kids. I'm a long time educator and totally agree with your comments.
