Toxic club - starting with the board of directors who don’t actually care about anything other than their players status and sweep a lot of reoccurring issues under the rug. Kevin Layton, director of the girls program and a coach, is a nightmare, incredibly unprofessional. He has no self control and has literally yelled at players and kicked soccer balls at them until they cry. He has temper tantrums on the field and pits players against each other. This does not build character or team unity, obviously. Multiple complaints against him have been raised to the BOD, who do nothing. Many, many talented players have left the club. Avoid at all costs - there are many more professional and successful programs in the area (just move to VA…it’s not that far away) That said, there are still some good coaches at the club, but - the BOD is biased and the head of the girls program is a crazy man.
You sure you weren’t describing the boys side and Derek Biss/Phil Gyau? It’s been incredibly frustrating and unprofessional for a few years. Loads of players leaving and now we are bio-banding for MLSNext teams and the kids coming down are HUGE. Derek’s explanation “the rules are loose and this my club” How far this club had fallen so quickly.
Philip is a businessman more than a coach. He leeches on players who have made something of themselves and claims it is his doing. Interviewing kids as if he had something to do with their success when in years prior he ignored them and their abilities completely. He does not create players he just rides their success stories. Next Star attracts a lot of talent and so it’s a great drop in model because you’re plying against good talent but they DO NOT add any coaching value and Philip is absolutely not the reason for these player’s growth and success
The vail comes off the deity…
Respectfully disagree about PG. He was great for my son, sorry you didn't have him or have the same experience. And he absolutely played a key role in Wayne and Kristian and AH and many others' development. I suppose he isn't for everyone, and if you are near the bottom of the team you will need to do a lot of extra work for him to have you crack the middle or the top. But for the right kids, he is excellent, and also excellent for anyone training with NextStar.
