This is dumb and spiteful. If you actually care about the District, you should be hoping that the DC government can somehow keep the teams in the city.

CapOne is clearly the best location from a transport perspective for the entire region. And its in need of a more comprehensive renovation. I don't care if Bowser or someone else gets the job done. We really can't lose these teams, given the moribund RTO status and lack of foot traffic. [/quote]

I am a DP, I really hope it does. 10 years ago you could go to a game or concert at Capital One Arena (it was the Verizon Center!) and then walk around to a bar or restaurant, go to a happy hour, then to your car or Metro. Even at night. It wasn’t a huge “nightlife” area but it was lively and fun. And no one was openly dealing drugs on the street. Your car wouldn’t be stolen and you wouldn’t be carjacked. There were panhandlers and homeless but they were not mentally disturbed and aggressive as they are now. But if you go there now you know that’s now how it is anymore.

I agree that a central location in the city is the best for all the fans. But the entire DC government dropped the ball big time and it opened up an avenue for Youngkin and the VA state and local government to quietly step in and Youngkin to convince his friend to move the teams. So yeah. I really really hope this is a wake up call for the city too, but I’m not 100% certain it will be. Don’t know what it’ll take to return everything to the good old days of, like, 2008-2016.[/quote]

The DC Government didn't drop the ball. Read the Axios report. DC doesn't have 70 acres and 2 billion dollars to give to Leonsis to retain the teams. That is the proposal Virginia made. It has nothing to do with crime, which is just the cop out bogeyman (yes it is an issue but it isn't why the teams are moving) - this is a plain old money grab that two old friends conjured up at Virginia taxpayer expense.[/quote]

Actually, there are lots of real estate opportunities that were potentially available here.  Former RFK site is an obvious one.  Plenty of underutilized office buildings as well.  Yes, some creativity would be required.[/quote]
