Since this thread started the weekly avg number of reported cases on the Fairfax Health District’s website has dropped by over 100.
Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Howard County are currently at high community spread as of this week, increased from the previous weeks.
And yet deaths have been flat since March, as the initial Omicron wave subsided. Similarly, ICU admissions have been fairly flat. So, a lot of people are getting Covid, but people don’t seem to be getting particularly sick from it.
Lots of people are getting pretty sick from it.
Kind of like the flu. Did we mask every winter before covid? Did we kick healthy kids out of school simply because they happened to sit next to someone that came down with the flu? Did we regularly test kids that weren’t showing any symptoms for the flu?
Not comparable but more reason to mask.
Correct, much milder than the flu
It’s not milder for some. It was not for me.
The numbers are clear. Weekly mortality rates from covid among vaccinated individuals are lower than weekly mortality of the flu during flu season.
I don’t care about mortality I care about getting sick. How hard is that for you to understand?
From “two weeks to flatten the curve” to “I never want to get sick ever again.” For some people the goalposts have moved so far in 2.5 years.
Denial must be great.
DP: Denial of what? The truth is that many, many people have had covid and bounced back. And, there is no way to stop the virus; it will be with us for years to come, and eventually everyone will get it. Take precautions, but accept the fact that you must live your life, go to work, etc. Mask or don’t—your choice. Vaccinate/boost or don’t—your choice. I was just at a huge conference; the only people masking hadn’t had covid yet (myself included).
