In at Indiana and Loyola Md as of today! Also Loyola gave enough merit aid where the COA would be $25k all in.
I have kid at Loyola and one at UVA. Loyola is better ROI so far. Train from DC/Alexandria to Baltimore is under $20. Good luck making your decision!
Do they commute from DC area to Loyala Baltimore for class or other activities? Or it's that cheap and close to visit your kid/your kid visit you while they are at Loyala?
They don't commute, but is really convenient to visit for an O's game or Ravens game. My kid can also come home for haircuts or dental appointments and go back to school the next day. We even saved money on the student health plan ($3000) b/c if he needs something like a strep test, he can go to the pediatrician at home. Our other option would have included a need for a car on campus or a lot of flights. Just things that are worth factoring in...
So not having a car on campus won’t be an issue? We haven’t visited and wondering if most of students don’t bring their cars on campus.
I went there as well (in the early 1990s) and I had a car sophomore year. My son's roommate had a car (he cut some kind of deal). Rarely drives it. As a freshman, they used Ubers a lot. When I had a car on campus people asked to borrow it a lot and you become the default parent-running to the grocery store etc., so I discouraged a car for my kid. Now rethinking that but kids tend to stay on campus as juniors and seniors b/c the housing is nice (LM bought apartment buildings around the school and turned them into dorms). Campus is really walkable. He and his gf walk to the rec/aquatic center every day and it is less than a mile from the dorms. There is also a shuttle, but driving to class is not a thing. Their version of Tysons is Towson Town Center and that's 10-12 miles away. The campus is somewhat gated, so the spots you pay for on campus are enough for those who sign up. (I think it is $500). When we tried to buck the system in the 1990s we parked at local churches. The Amtrak station is 10-15 away, halfway between campus and the Inner Harbor (or stadiums).
