Evan & Gracie, please
You have wanted kids for a long time, but it took awhile to convince your husband. In fact, you're still not sure he's fully invested. You make all of the decisions, you wipe all of the bottoms, you do all of the band-aids and special boo-boo kisses, and he occasionally do some bed time reading. It's not a full partnership, but that's ok. You knew that when you pushed for kids that you would be the one doing the heavy lifting (and delivering). Evan was a name that you both agreed on fairly quickly. No special spellings to deal with, no weird nicknames, no cultural or historical issues. And true to his name, Evan, was an easy baby and has grown into a cute and likeable little guy. He'll eat anything, he has good manners, and is always well-liked by the teachers. Gracie on the other hand took a lot more discussion and cajoling. Your husband had his heart set on Julia. You never really figured out why but you suspect it might have been an ex-girlfriend's name and it was just too close to Julie for you. Julie, like Candy, felt like a trashy party girl name. You wanted your daughter to have a classic, elegant name. You didn't initially consider Grace. You were leaning towards Amelia and Sophie, but somehow Gracie came into the picture when you realized that Julia was becoming an issue. You won the battle and Gracie suits her perfectly with her sparkling, sometimes too intense, personality. She is frequently the one who attracts attention from strangers and relishes it. You dress fairly conservatively, Banana Republic, J.Crew, but that wasn't always the case. In college, you had a reputation for streaking and doing topless Chinese fire drills. Your husband doesn't know that about you and you have never introduced him to your college friends, but sometimes you miss those wild days.
