You don’t turn 40 years of US corporations sending manufacturing jobs overseas on a dime. There will be a lot more people on food stamps soon enough - oh wait, that program has been cut. The reason those jobs went overseas in the first place is because wages in the U.S. are too high to maintain a profit margin on manufactured goods. And for many years, corporates also got a tax break for moving the jobs. So as of this week, the government is demanding that corporates - whose stock prices are decimated - to build new factories immediately in the U.S. and hire people here at South Asian salaries. The manufacturing sector would need Harry Potter’s magic wand to do that. The answer to improve American training, employment and purchasing power is education to create tech experts with good salaries at scale. But wait, education just got cut too. If you’re hoping for a rational explanation of all this, it will be tough to find one, other than that breaking a people makes them easier to control.
I'd say the "answer" is to share the enormous profits that corporations reap using cost effective offshore labor with the American people. America (as a country) enabled billionaires to globalize their companies and make money. Americans should share in this wealth generation. Minimum wage should be a living wage, there should be guaranteed basic healthcare, housing, and living wage.
