Sleep isn't it. 
These guys see horrors every day, but when it's what amounts to be someone that's basically still a child (and possibly close to their own childrens age) it hits home even harder. 
All the training in the world can't prevent you from putting yourself in her parent's position.

He was probably also holding out hope that she may still be alive... this discovery dashed all of that hope.

DP, I theoretically agree with this. But I have watched many news conferences over the years—Morgan Harrington, the Lyons sisters, Hannah Graham, for example, and have never seen a law officer sniffling, etc, the way he was. These are all horrific crimes,  yet the Lyons sister’s situation was just plain evil and sickening. Found his demeanor odd.[/quote]
