Cersei was named Queen Regent for her son, until his majority. She previously ruled the country.  Jaime gave up the right to hold any kind of lordship when he became a King's Guard.

But wasn't Jaime kicked out of the Kings Guard by Tommen? Very confused about this. I think either the PP who chalked it up to the Baratheon line to the throne or the PP who said "Hey, Cersei just did a power grab" is right.[/quote]

Cersei's claim to the throne is weak. I think she knows it. But she's going to hold on to it for as long as she can. She's felt for a long time that the men in her life and those with a legitimate claim were too weak or too unfocused or too unskilled to lead. She sees herself as the true heir to Tywin's ruthless ambition and resents the fact that her being a woman made him disregard her as anything other than a pawn for marriages and heirs.[/quote]
