So sad the family didn't choose to wade/swim in the nearby swimming pool that had the lifeguard instead of the lagoon that had no swimming signs. I think that would be the more appealing choice to most people and so even without thinking about safety, most people would naturally make the safer choice. I can't imagine the hell these poor parents must be living right now. I am sure they are second-guessing every decision surrounding the death of of their child. I hope that I am never in their shoes, I hope they can find the strength to heal and take care of their remaining child.
I'm the poster who was there last month staying at the Polynesian. Every evening there is a boat parade with lights in the lagoon. In fact, I remember that they play music from The Little Mermaid that my DD loves. The boat parade is at 9:15 pm with fireworks starting at 10:00 pm. The best vantage point to watch the boat parade is from the beach. I have no doubt that the family had parked themselves there to watch the parade on the lagoon and were probably waiting for the fireworks to start.
Totally. That's why you stay at those resorts. People lay out there during the day too, and kids run about and play in the beach.
