Clearly you know nothing about how scientists and engineers think.  She's smart, pretty, and convenient - that's how they think.  I know everyone is saying "she's old" - well, yeah, so is he.  Some people prefer their own maturity level.  She's pretty for her age, and that's how he's thinking about it, plus she's smart, plus she's right there boosting his fragile ego everyday.
