Democrat here. No, they should not resign. Wearing blackface is obviously stupid, wrong and insensitive. Racist as well. But it is not illegal. Moreover, their actions took place in 1980s in the South (Virginia), when and where there was less awareness. Further, neither has participated in similar activities since then, or expressed any ongoing racial insensitivity. Fairfax should remain in place, but the allegations should be investigated If he committed sexual assault (which is illegal), he should resign. If he is cleared, he should remain. Context is important in making judgements. Age of individual, year it occurred, surrounding circumstances. The difference between Clinton and Trump is that Clinton's actions were consensual (except for one rape allegation which never went anywhere) and Trump's actions which were more harassment and more recent. Trump's actions were later in life and later in time. More serious in my mind. Hopefully, today, we would not elect someone with Trump's background. Again, hopefully, we, males, have evolved since Clinton. Turning the tables again, what about the rampant sexism and violence in hip hop music. Acceptable? No. For Justice K, I would have voted against him based on his views, but the allegations against him were old and some made up. Ford's testimony was convincing, but not enough. Grassley's committee should have done a thorough investigation before the hearings, which may have lead to more info or not. The alleged incident decades old was not enough based on current info. We, Democrats, must be careful. Unlike Republicans, we should hold ourselves to high standards, call out our colleagues when and where appropriate, but we must be fair and reasonable. Justice requires it. We know Republicans have no credibility on these issues, or anything else.
