I am so glad to see Metro police enforcing the law at least once in a while. They seldom seem to. Every night on the train, I see eating whole takeout dinners, often leaving their garbage behind. Two days ago I watched as one mother fed her kids fried chicken which they dropped on the train floor. Gentle reminders about no eating/drinking can be met with a string of f-bombs. Moreover, the whole fiction that people can carry coffee cups and other beverages onto trains as long as they don't sip them is ridiculous. Who is going to buy a Starbucks coffee, only to wait to drink it cold after a 30 minute train ride. The problem with coffee cups is that I've seen passengers drop them, splattering hot coffee all over trains, stations and sometimes other riders. It's not like Metro has more cleaning staff than 10 years ago -- more like the opposite. Better enforcement of the no eating and drinking law would be mean cleaner, more sanitary and safer rides.
