Having read through this entire post I can see plainly now that I am most definitely a frump. And furthermore, that I in fact enjoy and intend to continue on in my frumptitude. Who the fuck cares? I have 3 kids, a loving husband, and I'm 45. I really don't care that much. I want to wear what I want to wear. I'm old enough to have lived through the early days of Prince and Madonna, Pretty in Pink, Julia Robert's first film, grunge, the rebirth of 80's dance/rock, Bollywood, ....and at this point, it's really all been done. Who the hell cares enough to publicly judge another woman for not valuing her appearance enough to really put serious coins into it????? Clothes are fun, but they're just clothes. At least now I am aware that when I wear capris that I am hideously unattractive. Ha! The irony is that I actually think I look good in capris!!! So the joke's on me. Seriously, as women age, we really don't need to continue to be "on trend" unless we're in the fashion industry, right???? Isn't that the beauty of aging??? Don't we ever get to graduate from high school or are we really consigned to a lifetime of servitude to arbitrary rules of fashion and "on tend" bs?
Dear Capri Pants, This isn't about the fashion industry or trends. It's about self-awareness and self-respect, not money or labels. Frumpy is having so little self awareness that you have no idea what looks good on you or flatters what you've got. You certainly don't seem to care about how you look. Am I going to congratulate you for that? No. I am going to continue to advocate for all people - men and women and everything in between - to wear clothes that fit properly. We would ALL be more Comfortable walking around in pajamas and Slippers, but then what would separate us from the gamers who never leave the basement or the stoned college frat boy. Tuck your shirt in and have some self respect. Sincerely, Your better self
Dear your "better" self, You misunderstand. Where does one find non-capri or ankle length pants these days?! I am 5'9" the ankle length pants are capris on me. Long pants are impossible to find, especially casual long pants. I work in an office with a very casual dress code. A couple of my coworkers wear yoga pants daily. I would rather wear pant that are too short than yoga pants. For many women, there are no stores currently selling clothing that looks good. I don't think you understand this! I have gone shopping 3 Saturday within the last 2 months. I have a bought nothing, left empty handed in disgust. Many of us are tired of fashion and the poor quality of clothing. For some of us, we care but there isn't anything out there for us.
