When my father died, my mother was not old enough for SS. He had retired a year earlier and they were living comfortably on his SS and other retirement money as well as her trailing spouse income. With the SS gone, the financial house of cards was in disarray. If you depend on a primary earner, you need to consider financial disaster not just when raising children but for your entire life. Those of us who have moms and grandmoms who didn't have access to the same job opportunities we do need to be particularly aware of this gap.[/quote]
