It would be unconstitutional. In spirit if not in law but I think both. Our country's premise of freedom of religion is a cornerstone of our culture.
I am not in favor of banning Muslims, but how would it be unconstitutional? Constitutional protections only apply to US citizens, not every person on earth who thinks of coming to the US. Do people really not understand this?
Apparently not!
I believe I said 'in spirit if not in law.' I'm not a constitutional scholar so I cannot say that with complete confidence but if you can't see how being a country that was built on the premise of supporting freedom to practice any religion of choice is in conflict with banning an entire religion from immigrating then you have some problems with logical thought processes. I believe that if it made it to the Supreme court that someone could prove they were denied entry solely due to their religion of choice than it would be deemed unconstitutional.
Ah but if they were a segment of a population subset which is currently causing major issues/deaths/insurrection? Can France and Belgium determine the enemies within? The Palestinian wife of Omar mateen was NOT allowed to drive in CA by her family. Assimilated?
I really don't think you understand the first amendment. As I said earlier, it doesn't discriminate against ideologies. I would argue that Christianity is just as anti-gay and has been just as responsible for the LGBT hatred that bolstered the Orlando shooter. I would argue that the Westboro Baptist Church espouses a belief that is very upsetting to a lot of Americans. You're allowed to be an american and a communist, you're allowed to be an american and a muslim, you're allowed to be an american and support Kim Jong Un. You're allowed to think and say basically whatever the eff you want if you're an american. That's our whole thing. You certainly aren't required to become a gun-toting, medical marijuana smoking, hamburger eating, american ninja warrior watching, firework lighting 'merican just because you immigrated here. I agree that people who hate America shouldn't be allowed to immigrate but the Muslim faith doesn't hate America, that isn't what the Koran says. I think you want to live in a different country honestly. All the good things you like about America, they come with a price. With freedom comes risk. With government surveillance and exclusionary government policies come LACK of freedom.
Sure, you're allowed to do all those things if you're an American, but everybody in the world doesn't have a right to be an American. Freedoms for American citizens doesn't mean that we can't control immigration; people in foreign countries aren't American citizens (in case you were unclear about that).
