Op I'm not going to tell you our two boys' names because there probably isn't another pair of them in the DC urban area, but we picked names that were true to our heritage. Being from ancestors who literally settled the Virginia colonies, we knew all of our relatives were from Wales, Ireland or England, so we made a list of boy names and surnames that are often used as first names now (think Brady, but not that name) from those places. We eliminated all of the names that didn't "translate" well and gave preference to names that were related to our predecessors of our last names, mothers' maiden names, popular middle or first names through the generations, and eventually, a second Blu name that was different from but paired nicely with our older son's name. We also added in some names of great -grandfathers we knew and eliminated any names that one or the other had issue with (I.e. Bad ex boss). We ended up with a list of 5 names or so that we through around for a couple of weeks, testing them with the middle names, our last name, brother's name, etc. The names we have are unique at the same time nor being weird or trendy. I have met I think one other child with my first's name, and none, yet, for my second. It is however a popular boy's name on the UK, and we took a big family trip there when I was pregnant with him, which made it special. Just some words on our process. We used sites like Nameberry to make our lists. You can input names you like and very some other ideas that are similar but different.
