First, if OP was getting up that quickly, MIL might not have had time to hear and process what OP said before she did what she did. Second, OP's words were a little surprising for a conversation between two adults, though a, "panicked" or, "pleading" tone might be more understandable than, "stern," "commanding," or "shrill." Like I said, lots going on with this situation.[/quote]
