That would have probably ended it.  And if he had taken the presidential approach and reacted similarly to other events, he would have a reputation as presidential and a gentlemen.  Instead, he has a reputation of being an egomaniac and a misogynist.  For someone who's always touting how great he is, he sure is dumb.  It was so, so simple to smooth this over.
