It's amazing that conservatives are still defending this guy. I mean, really? If there were ever a false martyr, it's this guy. He's a fucking lunatic.
Conservatives like myself (as you put it) are not defending Zimmerman as a person. The forensics are the forensics, and while Zimmerman chose to follow Martin (something I don't condone), it was Martin who jumped Zimmerman and started beating his head into a curb. At that point, Zimmerman used his weapon. That is when it became self-defense, and not murder. Those are simply the facts of the case. My feeling is if Zimmerman is the person 'liberals' say he is, then he will land HIMSELF back in jail. OJ certainly did.
Notice how hard he's been trying to land himself in jail? He's just been lucky that the women in his life haven't wanted to press charges. I don't know what happened between Martin and Zimmerman and in the end who was the most aggressive at the point at which Zimmerman shot Martin. But we have plenty of evidence that Zimmerman doesn't know how to keep from escalating a fight to the point where it becomes violent. I haven't read the details about his relationship with the guy who shot him (or *at* him as the case may be) but it would not surprise me at all if Zimmerman hadn't escalated the conflict to the point where a nutter thinks it's okay to shoot at him. Grown ups know how to defuse a potentially violent situation. George Zimmerman is not a grown up and has failed to learn from his mistakes. I have no sympathy for him.
Unfortunately it WAS ok for Zimmerman to shoot Martin under the circumstances. self defense. Nothing you said changes that
Uh, did you actually read what I wrote? I didn't say whether it was okay for Zimmerman to shoot Martin. I said that Zimmerman does not know how to prevent a situation from becoming volatile -- something that the vast majority of adults know how to do. And in fact we know from other accounts of Zimmerman that he in fact escalates conflicts towards violence in ways that a mature person could easily avoid. I don't know what happened with Martin but Zimmerman has a clear track record in other incidents of making a bad situation much much worse. Maybe it was all Martin's fault in this particular incidence, I don't know (and for the record, you don't know either) -- but forgive me if I continue to be skeptical that Zimmerman is completely an innocent victim here. He has a lot of growing up to do and he is running out of time.
