do you believe that people don't go to heaven or hell until the day of Judgement?  Do you think that it's like we're asleep until then and then we wake up to be judged?[/quote]
There is not a strong case that the Bible teaches "soul sleep," even temporarily. Jesus told a story of the rich man in hell, talking to Abraham and a beggar he ignored who were in paradise. When the thief on the cross confessed his sin to Christ, Jesus told him, "[i]Today[/i] you will be with me in paradise." Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5 that he would rather be "absent the body and present with the Lord." In John 5:28-29, we are told that after the Second Coming of Christ, we will all be reunited with our bodies, those who believed in Christ to a resurrection of life, and those who didn't to a resurrection of damnation. Until then, the Bible seems to teach that our souls are conscious of our fate. But even if we do go to sleep for a time, it is clear Biblical teaching that we will exist, consciously for all eternity, which would make that sleeping period seem like a very short nap that will quickly be forgotten, regardless where you end up.[/quote]
