My child is at a SHSAT and believe me there are still many resource constraints + public school issues. And college admissions are more often than not a sh**show. If you know your child is an absolute superstar who is also willing to spend 5+ hours a day on homework, the SHSAT schools are great, otherwise s/he would very likely have a better experience and college outcome at a 2T private.[/quote]

We chose a 2T private over an SHSAT and are very glad we did. My child likely would have risen to the occasion and done fine, but they would have had a miserable four years of high school. But we are also fortunate to have the resources to pay for private - I recognize that not everyone has this option and it is a different equation for every family. SHSAT schools are an incredible opportunity for many kids and NYC is lucky to have them.[/quote]

Yes, SHSAT schools are some of the best, but not the best option for every child. If we had the $ for private, I would have gone that route with this DC. Would certainly never bash another family for making that decision. [/quote]
