Some figure skating moms are catty and gossipy, but hockey parents can be so crazy. We’ve had a parent fight in the bleachers each of the last two years. And hockey parents have unreasonable expectations about their kids’ “potential” and they lose site of their long term goals for their kids, which should be to get a good education and start a real career. Also, AAA hockey, at least outside of Minnesota, Boston and Michigan, is quite a bit more expensive than high level figure skating. I’ve done the math. One year my son broke 4 sticks and grew out of 1 pair of skates mid--season. The travel costs are usually the most expensive part, especially if you play thru spring and summer. Hockey is not a great solution if you are looking for something more “low key” than figure skating. [/quote]
