Would the money have less value to you if it didn't come in "like actual cash in five thick envelopes full of 100s plus a fat check"? Or did you just think we're too dumb to understand what 70K means unless you help us visualize it? I'll tell you what I told the Jewelry OP, who did the same thing. You would have been so much better off buying tech stocks 20 years ago at a different bank. You're not factoring in inflation here in your pricing. Real money in modern society is not in clothes or jewels. We're not living in huts and wearing our family's entire fortune on our person.
I actually got excited by fat envelopes full of cash because I don't have a car to get to ATMs or banks anymore. I miss cash. I was like CASH!! But then it's just like a check and now I have to uber to the bank tomorrow to deposit it. I miss cash in terms of being able to give tips, mostly. I would have been able to do better to buy tech stocks 20 years ago but I think we did that. Like I have a pile of 100 statements piling up all the time because we have investment accounts for all of our kids. I just sold some stuff today that was in my closet and I wasn't paying attention to because you're right, you are very correct, stuff I had is just not relevant today. I guess you can get mad at me for agreeing with you but ... I'm agreeing with you
What? I'm old and I can deposit a check using my phone. OP is off.
I can do that with our joint account. But the account I've accrued in my own name, I really try not to touch that money. It said I could deposit up to $50K in checks and I had a 49K check but whenever I tried with the app it said "no accounts available for this function" (or something) So I had to get an uber to the bank. They said my account had gone dormant and was costing me $5 a month to keep active. I really had not been touching it. So OK I've lost $120 ish I guess. Wasn't really thinking it through at those times. Now my account is activated again and I know to take even an old check from our joint account (I still have them) and put in $20 written out to me once a month at minimum. I can also write checks from our general account and I don't know that he'd notice. If we get divorced, it's not fraud, it's all documented and the money is all there. But we're just not divorced. So he can use money, and I can use money, and he's so far putting all his funds into the joint account. I just need some leeway in case he does decide to file at some point, I will need funds on my own.
