I'm a 2nd gen asian immigrant and have to agree with this as I do see this in my community. A lot of parents care more about impressing their friends more than what would be the best fit for their kids because of the caste system culture. The irony is these parents love their kids and would do anything for them, but the presumption is that all colleges are good, as long as DCs get a stable well paying job from a Comp Sci or Engineering degree, it doesn't matter which college is a better fit. So the yard stick defaults to which college is most brag-worthy. If these parents care less about bragging and more about fit, their kids may actually be happier long term. Drastic career changes in 2nd-gen asian immigrant kids are quite common in my peer group when kids finally grow to come out from under the shadow of their parents. [/quote]
