As a moderate she's our only hope in ensuring that Virginia does not degrade into a version of Maryland. She's going to be dealing with a lot of ideological nonsense coming from the next House of Delegates.
Virginia Beach is degraded by the amount of people smoking pot everywhere. We can’t even enjoy a walk and the clean ocean hreeze. We need Spanberger to intervene and make VA Beach clean again. Yes we can.
Lucas is pushing hard for legalization since she owns a couple head shops in Newport News. You can expect legalization next year in a compromise deal to build a casino in Tysons.
Does it mean smoking pot will be legalized in VA Beach making those people happy while we’ll lost our right to breathe clean air?
https://www.pilotonline.com/2024/02/12/sen-louise-lucas-uses-new-chair-position-to-block-sports-arena-bill-governor-remains-optimistic-for-project/ https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/28/virginia-governor-vetoes-marijuana-bill-00149638 Spanberger will sign a new legalization bill in a heartbeat.
Spanberger is very pro-marijuana.
She and many other people can smoke it, as long as they do it in private (her house), not in public places. Key point is: not forcing other people (from babies to elderly) to be second hand smokers. That’s why she should pass a bill to ban smoking pot in public places.
The problem is that law is unenforceable. By the time police arrive, the smoker is gone but the smoke cloud hangs in the air.
Politicians who care about people can pass the law. “No smoking cigarettes and marihuana in public places. By Virginia Law” signs can make a difference.
We have 55mph signs too. Ergo speeding is not a problem.
Banning public smoking may not eliminate it entirely, but it does cut down on it dramatically. Do you remember how public spaces smelled in the early 1990s when it was still legal to smoke cigarettes pretty much everywhere? I'd fully support a law that legalizes marijuana, but treats it like cigarettes as far as WHERE you can smoke.
Totally agree on this. It is a health concern for the majority of people, from pregnant women, toddlers, young children to the elderly.
