This story doesn't make sense, so far. I am a naturalized citizen so I understand the immigration process better than an average person, one cannot get a SSN on a tourist visa, that just doesn't happen. How did he manage to get a law enforcement job without a SSN? This means, at some point he had a valid work authorization and along with that a SSN was issued, just to say he worked on a tourist visa is misrepresenting the facts. OTOH, maybe he faked a SSN and police department didn't even bother to complete the initial inquiry, the probability of that exists but is very slim. They need to share further details because based on the information shared, it looks like ICE is fabricating the facts.
Well if he's a police officer, he probably carries a firearm. Since he's an alien, that right there is illegal.
Isn’t a rational explanation that the officer forged documents? Hardly a rare occurrence as document fraud is extensive and it not surprising the systems notionally in place failed. Note he was caught when he endeavored to purchase a gun. ICE could be wrong, but that strikes me as unlikely. I am from Chicago and my best friend from high school taught in that district for over 30 years. A tough place known for corruption (although there are worse). I find some of the comments here emotional and naive.
Did you read the police department's statement above? I bolded the pertinent parts in case you don't feel like reading it. The officer would have had to have had a completely fake identity to get through the screening he received (federal, state police, and FBI). This includes being fingerprinted. How likely do you think it is that he faked his way through all these levels of screening? Before his hiring, the village confirmed through the federal government that Bojovic was legally authorized to work in the U.S., according to the police department. "At the time of his hire, Officer Bojovic presented the Village with a Work Authorization Card, which was issued by the federal government's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The card was valid and recently renewed. We also conducted a full background check, including his criminal history with both the Illinois State Police and the FBI," part of the police department's statement reads. "The bottom line is that all information we received from the federal government indicated that Officer Bojovic is legally authorized to work in the United States as a police officer. Clearly, without that authorization, the Village would not have hired him. Additionally, the Village has not received any notice from any federal or state agency that his work authorization status has ever been revoked." Police said the village also confirmed Bojovic’s immigration status allows him to carry a firearm while on duty.
These people do not read. They just regurgitate whatever their leader tells them.
I am no fan of Trump. I come from poverty in Chicago. From a jobless single mother. I attended two top ten universities, undergrad and grad, graduating magna and summa respectively. All American athlete at the state and national level in high school and college. In no way an elitist or wimpy intellectual - worked in a UFCW slaughterhouse at union wages to pay for the education. Most DCUMers could not last a day in that job. Lest you doubt me, I could bore you with a description of every kill floor job and position. In all frankness, I doubt you could last intellectually very long with me. I was second in the class at a top 10 law school, editor of the law review and did remarkably little work as I was efficient. I thought my undergrad accomplishments even better given a tough athletic schedule. I am wary of simplistic solutions and accordingly don’t care for MAGA types. I also don’t care for the hard left which has little understanding of economics (my brother a world renowned economist and I learned from the very best on tax policy.) But these are methodological gripes that are not caught up in emotion. Why you would presume that I am MAGA? It reflects either arrogance or a lack of acquaintance with tough minded rigorous people. But not uncommon on DCUM. It is odd to hear a MAGA comment ascribed to me from a likely intellectual and educational inferior. The issue isn’t whether I can read - and being a DCUM elitist without a strain of core toughness you would likely not be aware of the nature of a place like Hanover Park. It isn’t the only town like it, but it is very corrupt. Well, at least it isn’t Harvey, where I competed in athletics. The Chicago area is unlike DC in that it is very segregated with a far different history than here. It is far from unthinkable that an officer on the force with ethnic connections could have assisted this individual. In fact I would bet on it. I remember having a friend from Poland on the North Side, and being struck by the degree to which the Poles took care of their own, including many here illegally. Not being naive, I reminded myself that Chicago had the highest Polish population of any city outside of Warsaw! No accident. Like many immigrants today - good hard working people. This fact is what makes Trump’s law enforcement policies often troubling. But you can’t have police officers not being truthful on their employment applications. My guess is the agency who blew this open is the ATF, so in a sense the town’s defenses may not be the most relevant source. My Lake County criminal defense lawyer expects that claims will be brought collaterally attacking those arrested and convicted by virtue of this officer. A variant on an ultra vires theory. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit. It’s Cook County. Don’t overlook that Chicago and Illinois are the worst entities in terms of finances in the country. This statement is unfortunately unassailable. The politicians who have done this (there were a few Republicans in the mix too) deserve severe criticism, and the fact that Illinois is at the top in corruption indexes years after year is disturbing. But pointing this out factually doesn’t make anyone MAGA. The math is so awful the problems are intractable no matter one’s political beliefs. I can only imagine how much you will dislike this response. But suggesting that people much brighter than you don’t read is a foolish game.
Wow. What’s next? The Illuminati? Please educate us. Freaking wackjob.
