How come there aren’t many Asians on the basketball, football, or baseball teams? Especially at these D1 schools that are in the T20. Can we be honest and say that the Asian American and Asian international students don’t bother to talk to people outside of their ethnicity? It’s the same as it was then and it is now. They don’t talk to people of other ethnicities and only hang out with each other speaking their native language. Are they too scared to talk people outside of their ethnic group?
As an Asian American who grew up with mostly non-Asian American friends, I’m wondering where you live and where have you been exposed to Asian Americans who aren’t willing to make friends outside of their ethnic group?
My non-Asian child knows a number of kids at Stuyvesant, which is very, very Asian. My child's Asian friends get a lot of grief for hanging out with non-Asian kids. The school has a very weird subculture that is hard to explain. Again, there are plenty of "assimilated" Asian kids there. But the ones who seem to refuse to interact with non-Asian kids are very prevalent. A lot of these kids weren't born here or their parents moved here shortly before they were born. Note that I have seen this tendency among Russian immigrant kids as well.
