SWW was ranked #69 of all public high schools in the US, and BASIS DC was ranked #139 best public high school in the US and #33 best charter school in the US.

BASIS had 11 schools in the top 100 best public high schools in the US, including the #1 best public high school in the country (TJ sunk to #5).

If you look at the historical trajectory of the USN&WR rankings, BASIS DC has rocketed to near the top of DC public schools relatively quickly (the BASIS DC middle school is currently ranked #1 in DC).  Latin and DCI high schools have also moved up, and Duke, McKinley, and Banneker have slid down.

BASIS DC was only started in DC in 2012.

In 2013, the top 4 public high schools were:

1) Walls
2) Banneker
3) Duke
4) McKinley

In 2020, the top 4 public high schools were:

1) Walls
2) Banneker
3) BASIS DC
4) McKinley

In 2025, the top 4 public high schools were:

1) Walls
2) BASIS DC
3) Banneker
