Wow, you are a bit hostile. The Sela insertions into every conversation are getting old. It's one thing if it's relevant, but to post "Sela will definitely be in DCI" is ridiculous, both because 1) it's not true, and 2) the school hasn't even opened yet. It's not hostility, it's "wait for the school to open and see how it goes, but stop stating things like this as fact when it's total conjecture or blatantly untrue".
Indeed. Please stop the BS and hijacking, Sela poster, this thread is not about you.
Actually I am not a Sela poster. I am parent who is pro-charter, liberal, and Democrat who thanks the powers to be for charter schools since my DC would not have any acceptable choices in DCPS!!! My child attends another excellent charter school which is frequently reviled here on DCUM and I am astounded at the hostility towards charters here. Without charters, all students would be forced to attend a usually lousy DCPS unless the family is made out of mucho bucks.
I could describe myself the exact same way you described yourself, but I also agree with those growing tired of the boostering. You are making a big mistake to lump the "Sela/Yu Ying" anti-boostering together with the general anti-charter (i.e. pro-WTU) folks; they are usually not the same people, and it's evident in what they say. There are some bitter that their kids didn't get into a specific school (like, really bitter), and then there are those who obviously teach or are affilitated with a DCPS and are terrified of charters taking everything away from them, so they argue against charters at every single opportunity (sometimes even making stuff up just to create a chance to diss the charters). I'm actually a big fan of Yu Ying but I do think some people spend a whole lot of time defending the school to the point of silliness. And some really silly presumptuous things have been posted abotu Sela - hence the weariness. But it is absolutely not general anti-charter hostility in this case - I'm a major cheerleader for charters in DC.
