14:05 aren't there NYPD stolling each block?
OP. No. There aren't police strolling at Park Avenue and 52nd Street at 6:30 on a summer night. I mean there might be a patrol car driving around the area looking for any signs of trouble, but it would be an amazing coincidence if it happened to be in the right place at the right time and the officers noticed the gun.
Wouldn't *someone* have seen him before he entered the building or right when he exited his car with a long gun?
It really is impossible to say. It's probable that from exiting the vehicle to entering the lobby less than 2 minutes elapsed. Entirely believable that it was 90 seconds or less. It's possible that he looked left and right to wait for a break in the foot traffic before he exited the vehicle and then walked quickly up the steps to the plaza. (Earlier someone using the bank might have seen him, but by 6:30 the bank would have been closed and I THINK the cash machine entrance is on the Park Ave side. ) If anyone did notice him--again, purely speculative--it would be a small number of people, who really might not have noticed the gun or walked past him without registering that it was a gun he was carrying. Worst case scenario, 1 or 2 people saw him and realized it was a gun and did nothing. There weren't "hordes" of New Yorkers walking past hjm. As someone else said, it's possible that IF someone saw him that someone was a tourist. And, frankly, we don't know for sure that nobody called 911. Such a call could have come in a matter or seconds before others called when they heard a gunshot. I don't think going back and combing through all the calls to learn which each caller said is the number one priority right now.
