I did a deep dive into this case a few months back. No one knows what really happened but I came away thinking she was trafficked. Evidence that swayed me: - she was a lifeguard and strong swimmer, which might not mean much BUT she also feared the ocean. She didn't want to go on the cruise because she did not like the open water. Anything can happen but it is unlikely someone with her background would get too close to the edge and fall over, unless pushed. - by all accounts, she got a lot of attention from the crew and the band. She mentioned to her family that it made her uncomfortable. The crew did not adequately search the whole ship before letting people off. - the location of the boat when she disappeared was very close to shore/docking. Experts have said if a body fell over, someone would have seen it or the body would have been found. - photographer's pictures of her and only her are all gone. - and that picture of the sex worker looks very much like her.. - finally, the FBI has kept the case open and think foul play was involved.
This is a great list of reasons supporting that theory. But I can poke some holes in them: -Even the strongest swimmer would struggle to swim if they fell or jumped off a ship into the ocean. Practically speaking, they would be dragged under the ship. A drunk person wouldn’t have a chance. -The account from her ex-GF made a case for her to be heartbroken, opening the door to a suicide. Did her parents know she was gay? Any chance there was family drama around that during the cruise? -The crew is friendly with everyone. They work for tips. What exactly was documented about their behavior that was out of line? If she was so uncomfortable with the crew, then why would she hang out with them…and go off with a stranger in the middle of the night/early morning? -Why would a young gay white girl sneak away with an older black guy who was making her feel uncomfortable? -What deck was her cabin on? If it’s a lower deck, why would anyone notice if she fell or jumped off? You wouldn’t—especially if it happened between 4am and 6am. -The timeline is sketchy so there’s no way to confirm where the boat was. -What pictures of her were missing? Did the family confirm she had posed for pics by the crew photographer? That’s weird. -Is there a side by side of her pic and the sex worker pic? Link? Any chance it was photoshopped? -Does the FBI typically keep unsolved cases open or does an agent really believe she was killed on the boat (perhaps elsewhere) or smuggled off? -Could she have left her cabin, met a crew member, been sexually assaulted or struggled and then was suffocated or beaten to death before being tossed overboard? Incinerated? Smuggled off in trash or a big suitcase? Even if she had been kidnapped and smuggled off for trafficking, it’s doubtful she could remain off the grid for so long and still be alive.
It is not about her being a strong swimmer. It is that she understood the dangers of the open sea and was actively afraid of the ocean. I don't remember details now but the crew gave her a lot of attention and would invite her to go out with them or meet them at places when they docked. Crucial point was that she felt uncomfortable. I assume she is used to friendly staff and this seemed to go beyond. I think she did hit it off with the band guy. The boat was in a canal at that time. Possible that someone could fall and not be seen or found, but much less likely than open ocean. A canal would be busting at 5am. The weirdest evidence is the photographs. The cruise ship had a photographer taking random pictures during the trip that they would then try to sell to customers. Everyone has photos taken, and the photographer remembered taking photos of Amy. But only her photos were missing at the end. Just gone, with no explanation. Just Google photos of Amy and Jaz side by side. And the link above gives the analysis. They look very very similar IMO.
