There are special regulations in CA gor cannabis growers and workers. The supervisors/owners should be attested and prosecuted! 1. Everyone who works in cannabis cultivation has to be at least 21. 2. Cannabis cultivation workers are NOT considered agricultural workers. From CA state website: Q. Are employees in cannabis cultivation considered agricultural workers falling under IWC Wage Order 14? A. No. Although employees in cannabis cultivation are working in defined agricultural occupations for an agricultural employer, the Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (“MAUCRSA”) specifically provides that those employees are subject to IWC Wage Order 4-2001, not IWC Wage Order 14-2001 governing agricultural occupations. [California Business & Professions Code §26065]. As such, employees engaged in the cultivation of cannabis are entitled to overtime pay for hours worked in excess of eight in any workday or more than 40 hours in any workweek. (Agricultural employees are entitled to overtime after 10 hours in any workday, or more than 6 days in a workweek.) Employees engaged in the cultivation of cannabis are also entitled to double their regular rate of pay for hours worked in excess of twelve in any workday and for all hours worked in excess of eight on the seventh consecutive day of work in a workweek. Employees engaged in the cultivation of cannabis are entitled to applicable meal periods and rest periods and may recover one hour of pay at the regular rate of pay for each workday that the meal period or rest period was not provided. 3. Since marijuana is NOT legal under federal law, any non-citizen who is working on a cannabis farm is potentially putting their ability to become a citizen in jeopardy.
Exactly. Thanks to Trump and Biden's reckless immigration policies, we have undocumented children caught up in a situation where they are targets of Federal Law Enforcement officers while illegally working at a pot farm. This what you people voted for. Slow clap.
Just a quick reminder for people that share trumps dementia, Biden had a bipartisan immigration plan that Trump killed through his Republican yes men, even though he wasn’t president.
This. Sick of that pp who is both sides-ing this in every thread.
That bill should have been passed but it was 2 to 3 years behind when Biden lifted all band-aid laws that were in place and that bill didn't come close to addressing the root of the problem. Any immigration related legislation needs to prioritize making it easier for economic migrants to come here legally to work. That bill prioritized band-aid duct tape measures for border security and dealing with asylum cases. 95% of the migrants arriving at our southern border are economic migrants seeking work, opportunity, and a better life. Give them that opportunity through a legal path where they are vetted and sponsored by employers before they arrive on our soil so that idiot bullies like Trump can't prey on people who we need a lot more than we need him.
There already is an uncapped H2 visa program for agricultural work. But that requires paying higher wages than for illegals.
The H2 visa program currently in effect doesn't solve the problem of making it easier for economic migrants to work here legally which leads us back to Congress failing to produce immigration reform measures that do make it easier for economic migrants to work here legally. Yes, this means employers and H2 visa employees will need to pay payroll taxes which is an expense that will inevitably be at least partially passed on to the consumer. If these farm raids don't convince the masses of the need for the meaningful immigration reform that Clinton, Bush, and Obama along with all sensible Americans have asked Congress for, what will?
Trump has implemented meaningful immigration reform. Namely enforcing existing immigration law. This is a prerequisite for any 'amnesty now enforcement later' immigration reform. The second step is to have Democrats support enforcing immigration law, which they are not doing. Therefore nothing can be passed by Congress as no one trusts them to not do as Biden did and ignore enforcement.
Trump's number one campaign promise in 2016 was to secure the border with a wall. He FAILED miserably. Still no wall. As far as helping the immigration issue goes, how has Trump with the GOP controlled Congress made it easier for the economic migrants we so desperately need to come here legally to work? How can the "immigration problem fixer" president not be able to secure the border with a wall and be able to pass meaningful immigration reform when his party controls Congress???????? You are duped, my friend, but I still love you.
