Kumail Nanjiani's "The Big Sick" is a movie about a Pakistani-American man who keeps his American girlfriend secret from his family.  His parents occasionally arranged dates with traditional Pakistani-American women through a matchmaker.  In one sad scene, a women gets very upset, because a matchmaking rejection is very costly, and because she genuinely liked him.

Some online women want to "borrow" money before a date or after 1-2 dates when they already have boyfriends.  But it is rarely such premeditated gold digging.  Some people are just opportunistic.  They change to an earlier time and more convenient location, substitute appetizers for drinks, and then lose their wallets.  I wasted more time than money on such dates before learning to schedule dates that were less convenient and enticing.

That sounds annoying … can’t you kind of tell when a woman would be like that in advance though? As I dip my toe into online dating I have zero interest in an “apps” or even a dinner date so maybe that’s a good thing to set me apart 😂 I don’t like going out to dinner really at all so why would I want to add that to the discomfort of a first date??
