My worries about the timing and the drive were related to the stupid military parade and logistics from that. I am happy to say that it was completely fine and I was wrong to be worried about it. The parade seemed to be a big nothing burger in the end. If it’s at Carefirst arena next year with no parade, there is no reason for families to worry about it and my tip would be to park at a meter or in a lot but not the garage as that seemed to take a while to exit (as most do).
My advice would be to park say one or two blocks in the neighborhood on the street which is free parking and allows you to leave without traversing the main arteries that get clogged when leaving. I will say that traffic was not as bad as feared because the Military Parade was a bust...however, two years ago the graduation was held at 10am which meant everyone was driving in awful rush hour traffic. So, if they hold on a weekend day then all is good...but it still makes no sense to hold graduation in a 4,000 seat arena completely across town vs. a 4,000 seat arena at AU.
