"The most popular youth sport in America is soccer, with approximately 3 million registered players nationwide. Basketball and baseball are also highly popular, with roughly 2.6 million and 2.5 million participants, respectively"
soccer is the most popular youth activity that involves movementin America. biking in the neighborhood might be second. most popular youth sport is basketball, no doubt.
Okay We'll ignore the over 3 million officially registered kids playing soccer and just go with how you feel 😀 Is tennis a sport or activity? Need to let Wimbledon know haha
Sorry to hurt your feelings. Soccer really is a great activity for kids and youth, hence the 3 or however many millions registered (paid) to play.
How are feelings involved? Some are saying we can't be a top level soccer country because it's not popular. The numbers say its very popular and millions of kids are participating. So obviously the numbers aren't the issue
DP - Numbers are very much the issue when it matters. Just because a kid plays soccer when they're too young to play basketball/football doesn't mean we are nation of soccer lovers. The prior poster did a disservice by saying "activity that involves movement" but, low level young rec is essentially that for most participants. When it gets more serious at 11v11 so many of those kids have quit soccer for the actual popular sports in the US.
The other is issue is by the numbers yes we have a lot of youth playing soccer but majority of those numbers at certain ages are due to kids just playing for fun or for their 60 minutes of exercise. Those same numbers in other countries are actually aspiring to be pros that live eat and drink the sport.
