The sheriff is Robert Norris, Kootenai County Sherriff. You can read all about him here. He does not have an unblemished record.

So far, no charges have been filed against Norris, who has retained an attorney: "Police identified Norris as an 'involved' party. No criminal charges have been filed against him."

Norris is apparently at odds with the local Coeur d'Alene police, where the townhall took place. The Coeur d'Alene police chief (Lee White) said "It’s not appropriate for law enforcement to forcefully remove a person from a town hall for speaking out of turn or shouting." Read his words--they are heartwarming given what's going on in the country right now.
