I hate Trump but why are so many people overstaying their visas? It's because people have been allowed to openly violate our laws for the past twenty-five years. Trump ran on enforcing immigration laws and that is a big part of why he won.
Pros and cons to freedom. I’d rather people overstay their visa than live in a police state.
I'd rather live where people know better than to break laws. Law-abiding, hardworking citizens who don't break laws will be fine.
oh really. Tell that to a black man who gets pulled over and roughed up. I bet you've broken laws.. parking, speeding, etc.. You just want to pick and choose which laws *you* think should be followed.
Like following immigration law?
The article said that she had an active asylum case pending and a legal work permit. Also what a mom… in the midst of that awful and terrifying situation, she was calm and kept trying to reassure her scared daughter. I hate what our country is doing to immigrants right now. They make our country what it is and our country is NOT going after criminals. They are going after all immigrants (except Elon and Melania).
It's well known that starting an asylum case that will drag on for years due to a backlog is a good way to get a work permit. Most do not qualify for asylum. The article also states that she is a known member of a gang.
You conveniently left out this sentence that follows the claim that she’s a gang member. “Her attorney says the government has not presented any evidence of any gang affiliation. She says it also hasn't presented any information detailing why she was arrested.” No one objects to the government removing actual gang members, but they’re removing people with no evidence of gang membership and no due process. And that’s a problem for everyone in this country, citizen or not.
It was left out because of course her attorney would say that. It's kind of her job. Remember way back when everyone was melting down because that transplant doctor was denied re entry into the country only to find out later that she was posing for pictures with terrorists? So you think that this 51 year old lady was just being picked up for nothing? Of all the people here illegally, that's who they chose?
Yes, yes I do think it's quite possible that this woman--and many others--are being picked up by ICE on ZERO, bogus, or flimsy evidence. The Turkish student who was abducted off the street outside Boston is still in a Louisiana prison. She was picked up for co-authoring an op-ed in her college paper that was pro-Palestinian. I'd be happy to link it if you'd like to see it for yourself. It was not "radical" in any way. Regarding the Venezuelans sent to El Salvador: "Many Venezuelans deported to El Salvador have been found to have no criminal record in the United States, despite being deported as alleged members of gangs. Reports from CBS News, Bloomberg, and Cristosal, a human rights defense NGO, have found that a significant portion of the deportees, ranging from 75% to 90%, lacked criminal records. Human Rights Watch also noted that many of the deportees had no criminal history in Venezuela or other Latin American countries." Furthermore, I have ZERO confidence in this specific government to follow due process and present evidence of actual wrongdoing.
Louder for those in the back pretending not to hear or who are listening. The greater majority of people have no criminal record. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/what-records-show-about-migrants-sent-to-salvadoran-prison-60-minutes-transcript/ Government officials are even able to defend this in court. And they are paying El Salvador. This is nothing more than the government trying to control the people and eliminate any dissent. Do realize that one day they will come from you too
