At this point it's political suicide to stand up to Trump. The only Democrats who survive in elected office will be the ones who cooperate and help him with his agenda. Sad but true.
Absolutely wrong and tone deaf.
Tone deaf to dcurbanmoms, but right on with the national electorate. Approval ratings for Democrats have plunged during Trump's two months in office. Trump's ratings have slipped a little too, but nothing like what's happened to Democrats. We struggle to grok it here in DC, but "all the craziness" of Trump's first 60 days have HELPED Republicans relative to Democrats. The numbers don't lie. Back in calmer times, Republicans and Democrats worked together. Think of Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill. But now Democrats have been "fighting" for 8 years, and the voters' response was to deliver Trump every single swing state and for every Demographic group to shift toward Republicans. The number of voters who want Democrats to just obstruct for the next four years is too small to deliver election victories to Democrats. I understand the calculus that many Democratic office holders are using. They know that Trump hate is the most important motivation for the most active Democrats. And they are afraid of being primaried from the Left. BUT...they aren't going to be able to win general elections if they do nothing but obstruct. They won't be able to win back the flyover state folks and independents and soccer moms if they reject the message those voters just sent--that they want populist Republicanism right now, not establishment Democratic obstructionism.
Republicans for years having voted No on almost everything. Congress has the lowest approval rating and each year it continues to be lower. So Democrats should just vote No or be absent. Stop with the propaganda that all these folk want populist Republicanism. It’s a lie. What most people want and desire is an ALTERNATIVE. Quite frankly I expect more people to become Independents.
That just means checked out at this point. I expect people to vote one way or another based on their wallet, not worry so much about belonging to one party or another
The voters consistently report trusting Republicans more with the economy than they trust Democrats. We've gotten awfully excited about the stock market backing down 10% off its highs. We're hoping that an economic downturn will make people wish they had voted for Kamala Harris. I would argue that's an unlikely outcome. That's not really how human psychology works. And hope is not a strategy. What are we going to DO, other than loudly wish for the American people to suffer a recession? (which is obviously not a great look. they know we want power, but do we have to be SO obvious about wanting Americans to suffer for daring to oppose us?)
No we don’t want “power” you disingenuous fool. We want to protect our country and the citizens from a con man who will sell us all out.
Wishing for everyone who disagrees with you to suffer doesn't exactly sound like you want to "protect" the country. It sounds like you're mad you didn't get want you want and want to hurt people now in response, or at least you hope they get hurt. Democrats try to claim the moral high ground on everything, but your true colors show every time you don't get what you want. You dint actually care about people. You wear a costume of caring about people as part of your strategy. But the mask slips when you're angry.
We get it. You hate democrats, but if you really are a flyover state person, you need to know the national Rs are selling you out, lock stock and barrel. I'm not saying you might not have good local R government. I live in a place like that. The local Rs are more moderate. They care for their constituents. But the national Republicans are only acting in the best interests of their very rich supporters right now. There are a lot of guardrails being removed ( let's be honest, placed there by Democrats) which used to protect the little guy, the average American. If people wish for a recession it's so people can understand how harmful some of these new policies are and how Trump is dismantling the country so it's no longer "of the people, for the people, by the people."
I'm not a republican. I see the red team blue team stuff for what it is. This isn't football. Both parties are failing the average American because they are beholden to their large donors. It's rich vs poor and has been for a long time. Both parties represent the interests of the rich. And I don't mean dcum rich.
Shouldn't you be in class?
