My guess is that as soon as Brian was dropped off at the hotel, Gabby likely called or texted him telling him that she was terrified of being alone (who could blame her?) plus didn’t like driving the van.

Brian probably told her to just join him at the hotel so she could get in a shower (bad idea the public showers) and a good nights rest in a real bed.
That way she would be safer (ironically, right?) vs. stranded somewhere alone in the van, like camped beside the road or parked in a bush….[/quote]
