Why are people so obsessed with how big their kids are? I never think about this. Weird.
Height is helpful in life. I don't know what to tell you. People want their kid to have every possible advantage.
That’s like saying have blue eyes with pale skin is helpful in life. It’s not true.
Those are not analogous. Height is helpful in life for males in particular and for men and women in many sports. This is evidence based. No reason to get your knickers in a twist about it.
What type of build you have can give you an advantage in sports. . But you didn’t explain how height is helpful. And yes blues eyes and fair skin beat out dark skin and dark eyes, it’s called racism, for a very long time. Probably still does in some areas. Tall vs short is a different form of prejudice. And apparently still ok.
You need it explained why height is helpful in many sports? Don’t know what to say. Open your eyes. This is prejudice? Lots of studies of height impacting earning potential, presidents are tall, etc.
Read the first sentence again slowly this time. It’s not a question. If people are stupid enough to take height into account when choosing a president then they get the president they deserve. And some of us are stuck with that bad choice. And we’re missing out in a lot of good people.
People aren’t talking height into account explicitly. it’s unconscious bias against short men. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t a real effect . I’m not sure why this is turning into an argument. Being tall is an advantage like being a beautiful woman is an advantage like being thin is an advantage and on and on. You explaining away why it’s dumb isn’t going to make it go away. This is why people are “obsessed” about height and these threads pop up all the time.
I know. There’s unconscious bias against Black people too. Not too many people like it. Look at poor Barron Trump he’s about 6’7” and apparently didn’t play basketball but that doesn’t stop people from mentioning basketball when the subject of him comes up, and constantly talk about his height. Must be annoying. My nephew is about 3” shorter, didn’t play basketball and people ask him all the time. My daughter’s first part-time job was freshman year of college in NYC. A high end restaurant was looking for a hostess and asked for people to send in a resume and photo. She got the job without an interview. Her friends all dancers have these kind of jobs. Places where the 1% go and give large tips. They’ll hand my daughter $100 bill for seating them. But those jobs are for women in their 20s while studying or training for steady jobs. Do you want your doctor to be beautiful or knowledgeable and friendly? Mostly employers are looking for neat, well put together people who are pleasant, can get along with their coworkers and know the job. Pleasant looking, especially over 40 is more realistic. If we keep saying it’s dumb maybe it will go away.
