There's a deep meanness in the culture there that's gotten significantly worse. I used to be harassed riding my bike to school, people would deliberate run over animals right in front of us when we were walking home from school. It's just off there.
Where on earth is this in FL? Maybe you and "redneck striver" poster are from the same dysfunctional place because this is the opposite of the FL I know. You also both sound quite mean currently so that mean streak stayed with you.
Many of us have actually been to Florida. It always has attracted people that see a bit off, and that was before the MAGA infusion post Covid.
Adding I am not either of the posters you reference in your post. There is just something off about a state where no one raises an eyebrow about their governor paying to ship migrants from another TX to NY.
Nearly half of Florida votes the other way.
It really doesn’t matter when the government making decisions about finding and administration of the flagship is entirely red.
Why are you blaming people who vote like you and inferring they are "a bit off"? It is illogical.
I’m not blaming anyone. I simply wouldn’t send my kid to a flagship where the governor is DeSantis or Abbott when it is clear there is going to be a significant drop in federal support for said flagships. I’m sure those that vote blue in these states have bigger concerns than where I send my kids to college.
You literally said you think the state attracts people who are "a bit off"...This isn't about where you send your child, it's about insulting other people gleefully online.
I didn’t make up the Florida Man meme. Carl Hiaasen made an entire career off of it.
I’ll add I’ve had significant experience with Floridians. My mother’s family was from there, and my great grandfather was a local politician. My in laws have a house there, and I’ve traveled extensively around the state. My opinion is based on my own lived experience. Of course, you are free to have you own opinion, but worth noting op sought opinions, not just positive opinions.
I mostly know foreign born Floridians, so to me this opinion seems extremely outdated. The people you mention are all elderly for a reason.
You think an entire side of my family is elderly? Ok, then.
You are mentioning your mom's family WAS from there, your great grandpa, and your in-laws' vacation house. Yes, that seems grounded in the past and not current experience with year-round current residents.
Correction, my mom’s side of the family is from Florida. Happy now?
