She told me that I could probably lose 10-15 pounds through calorie reduction and really watching my life but beyond that, people just don’t drop 30-40 pounds without help.
At age 47, with a BMI of about 27 or 28, I dropped 40 to 45 pounds without help, and now I've kept it off for 5 years. I just cleaned up my diet (well, mostly) and added moderate exercise and stuck with that. It took about 6 to 8 years to gain that weight and about 6 to 8 months to lose it. I didn't have to cut out meat, carbs, dairy, etc., or skip meals. A member of my household takes Ozempic and absolutely needs it. They're having trouble losing despite the meds. It's the women who weigh 120 and would prefer to weigh 107 who are maybe not the best candidates for these drugs. If you're of the mindset that you should never be hungry or interested in food again, you're likely going to end up somewhere closer to 90 pounds. I would hate to see "emaciated" become the preferred body type for the next generation.
